The Cuba national baseball team is the number one team in the world according to IBAF rankings and includes majority of amateur players from the Cuban national baseball system, as there are no professional sports leagues in Cuba. It is governed by the Baseball Federation of Cuba under the Pan American Baseball Confederation.

Regional Games

In the Pan American Games, Cuba has secured 12 gold medals and a single silver medal in all and also 14 gold medals out of a total 17 in the Central American & Caribbean Games.

World Baseball Classic

In 2006, Cuba reached the finals of the WBC but lost to Japan.

In 2009, Cuba made it through to the second round but after two terrible defeats to Japan were ultimately eliminated from the tournament, their first exit before finals in any international game since 1951.

Olympics

Having participated in every Summer Olympic Games since 1992, the team has won the gold medal three times and the silver twice.

Baseball World Cup

Cuba was the original host for the 2009 Baseball World Cup, but willingly gave up the honor to Europe in order to help baseball grow as a sport in Europe. Cuba is placed in Group B along with Spain, Puerto Rico and South Africa.
