Theodore Roosevelt Lilly III, also known as "Ted", is a professional American baseball player. The left-handed starting pitcher attended the Yosemite High School and went to college at the Fresno City College, playing baseball for their teams. Ted was picked to be a part of the Montreal Expos in 1999 however, after just appearing in 9 games, he was traded out to the New York Yankees. He was with the Yankees for more than two years before being traded to the Oakland Athletics. Ted became a part of the starting rotation at the A's and pitched in the American League Division series for two years.

In 2004, Lilly moved to the Blue Jays after being traded out for Bobby Keilty. He was a part of the American League All-Star team in 2004 and was the only player from the Blue Jays to do so, that year.

After an average 2005, Lilly came into his own in 2006. A 15-13 record with a 4.31 ERA and 160 strikeouts was his highest numbers ever, in wins. He had a career-high 32 starts and almost made new high-figures in strikeouts and innings. Amongst the Jays, he was first in strikeouts and second in wins.

At the end of 2006, he filed for free agency and became one of the most-wanted free agent starting pitchers at the time. Lilly signed a 4-year, $40 million deal with the Chicago Cubs. Lilly had a strong run with the Cubs in 2007, ending with an ERA of 2.18 only. In a fire-packed series against the Atlanta Braves, Lilly was chucked out of a game after he hit Edgar Renteria in the first innings.
