The Women's Tennis Association was founded in 1973 by Billie Jean King. It is the principal organizing body of women's professional tennis. It was established to fight for equal prize money and better playing conditions for women players.
Today, the WTA governs the worldwide professional tennis tour for women, organizing the most prestigious tournaments including the WTA 1000 events, WTA 500 series, and WTA 250 tournaments.
The organization represents over 2,500 players from nearly 100 countries and oversees tournaments with total prize money exceeding $180 million annually.
The WTA Tour features 50+ events and four Grand Slams, culminating in the WTA Finals where the world's top-ranked players compete.
