This interruption was temporary, as the event was successfully reinstated in 2004. A significant milestone in the tournament's history occurred in 2006 when the China Open became the first tennis event outside the United States to implement the Hawk-Eye system in match play.
Location
The tournament has been hosted at three different venues over the years, reflecting its growth and increasing prominence in the world of professional tennis.From 1993 to 1997, matches were held at the Beijing International Tennis Center. Following its reinstatement in 2004, the event moved to the Beijing Tennis Center, where it remained until 2008.
Since 2009, the China Open has found its home at the National Tennis Center, a state-of-the-art facility befitting its status as a premier tennis event.
Surface
Along with these venue changes, the tournament has also seen a shift in playing surface.During its initial run from 1993 to 1997, matches were played on indoor carpet courts. However, since its revival in 2004, the China Open has been contested on outdoor hard courts, aligning with many other major tournaments on the professional tennis circuit.
