Miami Open

The Miami Open is one of tennis's most prestigious tournaments outside the Grand Slams. Founded in 1985, it has grown from humble beginnings to become a major event on both the ATP and WTA tours.

Tournament Evolution

The tournament began at Laver's International Tennis Resort in Delray Beach before moving to Key Biscayne in 1987, where it remained until 2018.

Since 2019, it has been played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. The 2024 edition set a new attendance record with 395,683 spectators.

Notable Champions

The Miami Open has seen several dominant champions throughout its history. In men's singles, Andre Agassi and Novak Djokovic have each claimed six titles, sharing the record for most victories.

On the women's side, Serena Williams stands alone with an impressive eight championships.

The tournament has witnessed remarkable winning streaks. Djokovic achieved three consecutive victories from 2014 to 2016. In women's singles, both Steffi Graf (1994-1996) and Williams have managed three straight wins, with Williams accomplishing this feat twice (2002-2004 and 2013-2015).

The Miami Open holds special significance as part of the "Sunshine Double" alongside Indian Wells.

These two prestigious hard court tournaments are played back-to-back in early spring.

Its 96-player draw for both men's and women's events makes it one of the largest tournaments outside the Grand Slams.
