Libema Open

The Libéma Open is a prestigious tennis tournament held annually in Rosmalen, Netherlands, representing one of the earliest grass-court events following the clay-court season.

Founded in 1990, the tournament operates as both an ATP 250 and WTA 250 event, serving as a crucial preparation tournament for Wimbledon.

Tournament Evolution

The event began modestly in 1989 as an eight-player invitational tournament, won by Olympic gold medalist Miloslav Mečíř.

In 1990, it joined the newly established ATP Tour as the Continental Grass Court Championships, holding the distinction of being continental Europe’s only grass-court event. The tournament expanded in 1996 to include women’s competitions, with Anke Huber claiming the inaugural women’s title.

Venue and Facilities

The Autotron Rosmalen, set in the natural greenery of Brabant, serves as the tournament's home.

This modern facility features extensive outdoor space, including pristine grass courts that mirror Wimbledon’s playing conditions. The venue offers 14,000 square meters of indoor space and 45,000 square meters of outdoor area, accommodating up to 45,000 spectators across its grounds.

Prize Money and Status

For 2024, the tournament offers its highest-ever prize money, with the ATP purse reaching €690,135 and the WTA purse totaling €267,082.

The men’s singles champion receives €98,557, while the women’s singles winner earns €30,650, reflecting the tournament’s growing prestige.

Recent Developments

The 2024 edition crowned Alex de Minaur as men's singles champion and Liudmila Samsonova as women's singles champion.

Following a two-year hiatus in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament has maintained its position as a vital stop on both tours, particularly for players transitioning from clay to grass courts.

Naming

Throughout its history, the event has operated under various title sponsorships, including Heineken Trophy, Ordina Open, UNICEF Open, and currently, Libéma Open.

The tournament continues to attract top-tier talent while maintaining its reputation as an essential preparation event for Wimbledon.
