Born on June 16, 1981 in Merzig, Germany, Benjamin Becker, nicknamed Benni, started playing tennis at the age of 7. He played tennis for four years while attending Baylor University in Texas and earned All-America honors for the last three years that he was there. He also bagged the NCAA singles titles after defeating Michael Kogan and helped his team bag its first title in 2004. He majored in Finance and International Business while in Baylor although he left before completing his final semester.

After leaving college, Becker started to play in Futures and Challenger tournaments. He first competed in Wimbledon opposite Juan Ignacio Chela. In 2006, he played at the US Open where he defeated Andre Agassi in Arthur Ashe court.

Although not related to tennis player Boris Becker, he idolized Becker and Andre Agassi and started wearing Becker’s clothing line in 2007. He was voted Sportsman of the Year in 2006 and was named Newcomer of the Year by the ATP in the same year. Becker plays best on hard courts and considers his forehand and serve as the most important components in his game.

He currently trains with Coach Tarik Benhabiles and Jean-Luc Fontanot. Becker is a big fan of basketball and follows the games of the Dallas Mavericks because of countryman Dirk Nowitzki. He is also a fan of soccer.
