Paul-Henri Mathieu is a French former professional tennis player who won four singles titles on the ATP Tour and achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 12.

As a junior, he won the boys' singles title at the French Open in 2000 and later reached the semifinals of the Canadian Open as a professional.

Paul-Henri Mathieu was born on January 12, 1982, in Strasbourg, France. He stands 185 cm tall and he plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand. He currently resides in Geneva, Switzerland.

Mathieu, who is nicknamed "Paulo," began playing tennis at the age of three and a half with his older brother, Pierre-Yves. His father, Patrick, is a dentist, and his mother, Yveline, is a housewife. His brother, Pierre-Yves, is now a tennis coach in Strasbourg. Mathieu's favorite surfaces are clay and hard courts, and he has cited Boris Becker as his childhood idol.

On September 10, 2016, Mathieu married his long-time girlfriend, Quiterie Camus, and they have two children: a son, Gabriel, born in March 2012, and a daughter, Inès, born in March 2017.

Junior Career

From 1997 to 2000, Mathieu trained at the IMG Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida, before moving back to Paris. As a junior, he compiled a strong singles record of 42–15 and a doubles record of 34–12. He reached a career-high junior singles ranking of world No. 6 and a doubles ranking of world No. 19.

His most significant junior achievement was winning the boys' singles title at the French Open in 2000.

Professional Career

Mathieu turned professional in 1999. He won four singles titles on the ATP Tour and achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 12 in April 2008. His best singles performance in an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament was a semifinal appearance at the Canadian Open in 2005.

In Grand Slam singles play, Mathieu reached the fourth round of the Australian Open in 2006 and 2008, the French Open in 2002 and 2008, and the Wimbledon Championships in 2007 and 2010.

He was also a member of France's Davis Cup team that reached the finals in 2002. Mathieu retired from professional tennis on October 31, 2017.
