Filip Dewulf
Born on March 17, 1972 Filip Dewulf is a Belgian pro tennis player who has two ATP singles titles and one title in doubles. He turned pro in 1990 and has been coached by Gabriel Gonzalez in 1994.
Dewulf has reached the semi-finals in the 1997 French Open, the first time that a Belgian tennis player has done so until Kim Clijsters would do the same in 2001 in the same event. He was eventually defeated by Gustavo Kuerten who defeated him in all four sets, although commentros agreed that his performance was one of the best seen in Rolland Garros by a qualifier. He would later reach the quarterfinals in the same event a year later before falling to Alex Corretja in straight sets.
He reached a career high ranking of number 39 in singles in 1997 and a career high ranking in doubles at number 125 which he reached in 1993. He has a total of 2 titles in singles and one title in doubles.
He reached the quarterfinals in the first Challenger of his career in 1991 in Knokke. He was also a member of the first ever Belgian Davis Cup team in 1991. He finished as the number one Belgian player in 1998. This was the same year when he underwent foot surgery to remove a small piece of bone that has been causing pain and inflammation. He lost the opening rubber to Courrier in the quarterfinals.
