Dick Norman is a Belgian tennis pro. Norman has lately inspired a cult following among tennis fans because of two imposing and pervasive superlative descriptions attributed to his uniqueness as an athlete. He is the tallest and the oldest player in the tennis tour. Born March 1, 1971 in a quaint village in Belgium, Norman measures six feet and eight inches tall, and is amazingly competitive in his game, even at his age.

The Belgian tennis star turned professional in 1991, but he has earned his great distinction as a prime athlete in his mid-thirties, when he has managed to reinvigorate his career and maintain his superb play and presence in the courts despite his age. In the 2006 Wimbledon event, he and Andre Agassi were the oldest male competitors, and were as threatening and imposing as any 18-year-old pros that were on the competitive list.

Norman competed in the 1995 Wimbledon event as a qualifier from the lucky loser’s draw, and surprised everyone by reaching the fourth round. Nobody has ever reached that far on a lucky loser’s card, and the fact that Norman went against big tennis names like Pat Cash and Todd Woodbridge and Boris Becker made his fourth round feat even more admirable.

His subsequent plays however were not as impressive as the 1995 event, and he vanished from the tennis circle after a number of dismal seasons. He came back on the tennis scene in 2003, at thirty-two years old, and has since been playing in Grand Slam tournaments. Though he has never won a title, Norman’s career earnings amount to over a $1 million, owing to his many Grand Slam appearances.
