Professional Career
Orantes won 36 career singles titles and reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 2 on August 23, 1973. Orantes's most notable victory came at the 1975 US Open, where he defeated the defending champion, Jimmy Connors, in the final.His career prize money totaled $1,398,303. In addition to his US Open title, he was a runner-up at the 1974 French Open and a semifinalist at Wimbledon in 1972. He also won the Tour Finals in 1976. In doubles, he reached the finals of the French Open in 1978 and was ranked No. 1 in 1975.
Orantes was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2012.
He also represented Spain in team competitions, reaching the Davis Cup final in both 1967 and 1970. At the Mediterranean Games in İzmir in 1971, he won a gold medal in both singles and doubles, and a gold medal in doubles at the Tunis games in 1967.
