George Lott was an American tennis player and coach. He is primarily remembered as being one of the greatest doubles players of all time.

Lott won the U.S. doubles title five times, and he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1964.

Player Profile and Personal Life

George Martin Lott was born on October 16, 1906, in Springfield, Illinois, United States of America. From 1969 until his death in 1991, Lott served as the men's tennis coach at DePaul University in Chicago. He was also inducted into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame in 1984.

Professional Career

Lott turned professional in 1934, which meant he could no longer play in Grand Slam tournaments.

Before that, his amateur career included winning the U.S. doubles championship five times with three different partners. He also won the French Open men's doubles title in 1931, the Wimbledon men's doubles title in 1931 and 1934, and the U.S. Open men's doubles title a total of five times.

Lott also won three mixed doubles titles at the U.S. Open and one at Wimbledon. His best Grand Slam singles result was reaching the finals of the U.S. Open in 1931.

He retired from professional tennis in 1946.
