Hunt was raised in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in geology in 1956. He married his second wife, Norma, and they had four children. Hunt was a lifelong sports enthusiast who earned the nickname "Game" in college for his passion for inventing new games and scoring systems.

Professional Career

Hunt’s most important contribution to tennis was his role as the co-founder of World Championship Tennis (WCT) in 1967.

The WCT created the first worldwide, commercial circuit for professional players, introducing guaranteed prize money, corporate sponsorship, and logo apparel, fundamentally changing the economics of the sport for athletes.

Hunt was also the principal founder of the American Football League (AFL) and Major League Soccer (MLS), and he famously coined the phrase "Super Bowl" for the NFL Championship.
