Dominik Hrbaty
Dominik Hrbaty is the Slovakian tennis player who earned 6 ATP titles. As of October 2004, he ranked No. 12 in the world.
Known to possess unique playing skills, best attitude when it comes to teamwork and fighting spirit, Dominik became one of the top players in the Hopman Cup and Davis Cup events.
Dominik was born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia on January 4, 1978. During his younger days, he was actively competing in the European Junior Ski. He focused on tennis full time when he turned 11. His father is an architecture engineer and his younger brother is a professional sports umpire. On January 10, 2009, he and Nelly Petrova were formally engaged only after Slovakia gained the Hopman Cup title.
In 1996, Dominik turned professional at the same time reached the finals of the Challenger. He gained a 35-15 match record and advanced in the top 100 position. He defeated Nicolas Lapentti in the Kosice Challenger title but lost a game to Alberto Berasategui in his first ATP Tour final held in Palermo. However, he gained victory in the doubles category of the Umag finals together with Karol Kucera.
In 1998, Dominik defended his championship title in Kosice and earned his first ATP title in San Marino. After a year he took home his second title in Prague. He may not have won a title in 2000 but he reached the finals in the Monte Carlo, Brighton and St. Petersburg games. Before the three finals, he also reached the semi-finals of Roland Garros. At that time semi-final event, he defeated Marcelo Rios and Yevgeny Kafelnikov but finally lost a game to Andre Agassi.
Also in 2000, he won a game against Kafelnikov and boosted Slovakia in the ATP World Team Championship. He won the doubles title together with Martin Damn in the Rome Masters and was able to reach three more finals.
In 2001to 2007 he had recorded wins and appearances in major competitions. Though he reached the finals in the 2008 Wimbledon Championships he lost the game to Roger Federer.
