Court played professionally from 1960 to 1977. In 1979, she was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Career

Court is one of three tennis players to have won a ‘Boxed Set’, meaning she won all the Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles Grand Slam titles.

She won her first singles title in 1960 at the Australian Championship. In 1962, she won her first Grand Slam singles title and in 1963, she became the first Australian woman to win the Wimbledon singles title.

In 1965, she won a Calendar grand slam in mixed doubles with different partners. In 1966, she temporarily retired from tennis after she lost to Vlasta Kodesova. She came out of retirement in 1967.

In 1970, she won a singles Calendar Grand Slam, beating Kerry Melville Reid, Helga Niessen Masthoff, Billie Jean King, and Rosemary Casals. In 1971, she won her 10th Australian Championship title.

In 1967, she was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). In 1963 and 1970, she was named the ABC Sportsman of the Year. She retired from tennis in 1977.

In 1979, she was named to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. In 1985, she was also inducted into the Sports Australia Hall of Fame.
