Séverine Brémond is a French professional female tennis player. She was born on August 14, 1979, in Montpellier, France. A towering figure at 1.72 meters, Brémond belongs to the class of female players whose good looks and great performance reel the crowd in, especially male tennis fans. She turned professional in year 2002.
More than her great looks though, is the power of her athletic prowess. In 2007, she reached the no. 37 spot in the world rankings after playing superbly in the Toray Pan Pacific Open, beating Marion Bartoli, another French woman, and almost winning the title. A right-handed player, Brémond is best known for her backhand.
Séverine Brémond participated in six tournaments this year 2008, a greater percentage of them being major ones. The events include the Australian Open, where she lost in the first round to Na Li; the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships, where she played against Sofia Arvidsson; the French Open where she went against Jelena Pandzic; the DFS Classic, where she lost the first round to Nathalie Dechy; and the Wimbledon Championships, where she competed against Bethanie Mattek. Her most notable performance was at the US Open, where she won first, second and third rounds but lost the fourth one to US Open champion Serena Williams. Her sixth and most recent one was the Bell Challenge, where she won the first round against Tamarine Tanasugarn, but lost in the second round against Angela Haynes.
Despite not having won any title, Brémond continues to be an enigma in and out of the court, a French female force always on the verge of winning titles, a most difficult nemesis of her potential to snatch the game out of nowhere.
