Oscar Hernandez
Oscar Hernandez started playing tennis when he was three years old together with his father, Domingo, a bank director. He is fondly called “Guindi” by close relatives and friends. Oscar speaks English, Italian and Spanish.
Born on April 10, 1978 in Barcelona Spain, Oscar became a professional player in 1998. He is coached by Ignasi Verdonces and Marcos Roy, and is personally trained by Nacho Torreno. Oscar plays best on clay court and is stronger with his right hand forehand shot.
In 2001, Oscar earned a Futures title again in Spain. This was his third successive year to win the title. He also won two similar titles under the doubles category together with Vlasov. They both reached at the Spot and Sofia Challenger. The following year, Oscar took home three Futures titles. He also qualified in the fourth season of the Challenger in Maia, and eventually reached the finals. He lost his final game to Hanescu.
In 2004, he was in the number 84th position for two straight seasons. In 2007, being a veteran in tennis, he advanced himself to the Top 60. This was his highest and for the first time in his career. His Challenger record was 25-8 with two titles and went 9-18 at the ATP competition. Early in 2007, he won a game at the Florianopolis Challenger in Brazil defeating Zabaleta. He also defeated number 20, Hewitt, in the first round at the AMS Rome, and Becker also in the first round at the AMS Hamburg.
Still in 2007, Oscar earned his second Challenger championship title in Braunscheig when he won a game over Mayer. His success advanced him to the Top 50 position. Later he reached number 48 in the Career High singles in October.
