Career

Turnbull never won a Grand Slam title in women’s singles but she did make it to the finals of three of them, except Wimbledon. She does, however, have Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

In January 1985, she became Number 3 in the women’s singles ranking. Then in January 1987, she reached a doubles career-high ranking of Number 5. The following year, she was in the 1988 Seoul Olympics where she won bronze for women’s doubles.

In total, Turnbull won 11 singles tour-level titles and 55 tour-level doubles titles. She also has 5 titles in mixed doubles.

When she retired, she coached the Australian Fed Cup Team from 1985 to 1993. In 1991, she was appointed to the International Tennis Federation Olympic Committee. In 1983, a part of Brisbane was named in her honor.

In 2009, she was inducted into the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame.
