Nathalie Dechy was born on February 21, 1979, in Les Abymes, Guadeloupe, France. She stands 178 cm tall and she plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand. She currently resides in Tournai, Belgium.Professional Career
Dechy turned professional in 1995. She won one singles title and seven doubles titles on the WTA Tour. She achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 11 in January 2006.Dechy's greatest successes came in doubles, where she was a three-time Grand Slam champion. She won the US Open women's doubles title in 2006 with Vera Zvonareva and again in 2007 with Dinara Safina. She also won the French Open mixed doubles title in 2007 with Andy Ram. She reached a career-high doubles ranking of World No. 8 in May 2007.
Her best singles performance was reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2005. At the Wimbledon Championships in 2008, she famously had a match point against the World No. 1 Ana Ivanovic before losing in a tie-break. Dechy retired from professional tennis in July 2009.
After her retirement, Dechy became the Director of the Biarritz Tennis Tournament in 2015, an event that is part of the ITF Women's Circuit.
