Gastao Elias is a professional tennis player from Portugal. He is the 5th Portuguese tennis player to have made it into the Top 100 of the ATP World Tour rankings. He was ranked No.57 in October 2016. This made him the second-highest Portuguese player, after Joao Sousa who reached No.28.

Gastão José Ministro Elias was born in Lourinhã, Portugal on November 24, 1990. He stands 183 cm tall. He plays right-handed and he has a two-handed backhand. Coached by Luis Guilherme Balboa, he turned pro in 2008. Throughout his professional career, Elias has earned around US$1.3 Million.He started playing tennis at a young age. In 2001, he played in an Under-12 nationals single event.
Career
2016 proved to be one of the biggest years for Elias’ career. He won at ATP Challenger at the start of the year. Later, he made it to the first round of Wimbledon. He even managed to defeat Sousa in the match. Other big wins for him that year included one against Horacio Zeballos and Christian Lindell.Aside from his professional career, he has also represented Portugal internationally. He played in the 2016 Olympic Games and made it to the second round of men’s singles. He also made it to the second round for men’s doubles.
