He is the son of Sandro Della Piana, a former professional tennis player from Switzerland. Laaksonen started playing tennis when he was just three years old. He moved to his father’s country in 2009 in order to train at the Swiss Tennis National Tennis Center.

Career

He turned professional in 2009, a short while after moving to Switzerland. One of the biggest wins of the matches of his career was at the 2021 French Open when he went up against Roberto Bautista Agut and he advanced to the third round.

In the same year, he made it to the third found of the US Open after beating Christian Garin. Also, this year, he won at the 2021 Open d’Orleans by winning over Dennis Novak.

When he qualified for the Rotterdam Open in 2022, he reached his career-high world ranking of No.84.
