Career

He turned pro in 1980. His first notable Grand Slam success was when he won the Men’s Doubles at the French Open in 1983. He followed those wins at the other Grand Slam events for the rest of the 80s and the early 90s. In total, he won at Roland Garros three times.

He was also a part of the World Championship Tennis Circuit (WTC) and in 1986, he won the Finals as a single player. The year before that, he made it to the semi-finals of the ATP Tour. In his singles career, his best Grand Slam finish was the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 1985.

1985 was a good year for his singles career. He had top finishes at three of the four Grand Slam events and on July 22, 1985, he reached No.5 in the world ranking.

In the same year, he was crowned the World No.1 for Men’s Doubles tennis. That year, he also won the ATP tour doubles finals.
