Career

He first gained attention when he won the doubles event at Lugo. A year later, he made it to the fourth round of that year’s Wimbledon Men’s Singles. In 1982, he won at the Australian Open Men’s Doubles event. This was his first Grand Slam win.

He would win more Grand Slam Double events from 1984 to 1986. He also finished in the second round at the men’s singles tournament at Roland Garros in 1983 and again in 1986. He made it to the fourth round of the men's single’s event at Wimbledon for 1986 and 1989. In 1983, he won his first Grand Slam event, the mixed doubles at the US Open.

In 1988, he was part of the Australian team that played at the Olympics. He made it to the first round in the men’s singles. He made it to the second round in men’s singles.

1991 was a great year for Fitzgerald. He dominated in a number of doubles competitions, especially at the Grand Slams. He won at the men’s doubles event for the French Open, US Open, and Wimbledon that year. In addition, he also won Wimbledon’s mixed doubles event for 1991. He also won the ATP Tour finals Doubles Even that year.

These successes led him to be crowned World No.1 for Doubles. He reached this ranking on July 8, 1991.

In addition to individual competitions and the Olympics, Fitzgerald also joined the Australian team for the Davis Cup. They won in 1983 and 1986.
