He started playing tennis when he was just 3. Fluent in German, French, and English, his first coach was his father Manfred. He favors grass surfaces and his favorite grand slam event is the Australian Open. In addition to tennis, he enjoys snowboarding and cooking. He attended Auburn University and is a supporter of college football.

Tennis Career

He debuted in the ATP in 2014. This was at Wimbledon where he was a qualifier who beat Teymuraz Gabashvili in the first round. He lost in the second. The next year, he made it to the first round of the Australian Open. He has also made an appearance as s singles player in the US Open and at Roland Garros.

He has had more success as a doubles player. His first major doubles success was in 2020 when he reached the quarter-finals of the French Open. Paired with Frederik Nielsen, they eventually lost out to the pairing of Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal.

He has a great 2021. He reached the semi-finals of Roland Garros again, this time paired with Hugo Nys from France. In the same year, he won his first Masters 1000 event, the Paris Masters. This time, he was paired with Michael Venus. He has had other success partnering with Venus, including winning at the Hamburg European Open.

After his wins in 2021, he broke into the Top 20 of the doubles ranking in November 2021.
