Teymuraz Besikovich Gabashvili was born on May 23, 1985, in Tbilisi, Georgia. He stands 185 cm tall, and he plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand.He speaks Russian, Georgian, Spanish, and English. In July 2010, he officially changed the spelling of his first name with the ATP Tour from Teimuraz to Teymuraz. Gabashvili has one daughter, Nicole, and currently resides in Moscow.
Professional Career
Gabashvili turned professional in 2001. He achieved his career-high singles ranking of world No. 43 in February 2016, and his most notable Grand Slam singles results were reaching the fourth round of the French Open in 2010 and 2015. He also advanced to the third round of the Australian Open and the US Open in 2014.In doubles, Gabashvili won one title on the ATP Tour and reached a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 101. He was a prominent member of the Russian Davis Cup team that reached the quarterfinals in 2009 and 2010.
On November 18, 2021, Gabashvili was suspended from competition for 20 months after testing positive for furosemide. He has since returned to competition and remains an active professional player.
