Michael Berrer was born on July 1, 1980, in Stuttgart, West Germany. He stands 193 cm tall, and he plays left-handed with a one-handed backhand. He began playing tennis at the age of seven and currently resides in Stuttgart.Berrer has a Bachelor of Psychology degree from the University of Phoenix, which he pursued while still playing on the tour. After retiring, he became a corporate coach, a mental coach for athletes, and a management consultant. He is married to Nadine, a dentist, and they have a daughter named Mia-Marie.
Professional Career
Berrer turned professional in 1999. He achieved his career-high singles ranking of World No. 42 in May 2010. While he did not win an ATP singles title, he reached two singles finals in Zagreb. His best Grand Slam singles result was a third-round appearance at the French Open in 2011. He also made it to the second round of the Australian Open four times, and the second round of the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open once. His most notable singles win was against Rafael Nadal at the Qatar Open in 2015.He won one ATP Tour doubles title and achieved a career-high doubles ranking of World No. 134 in March 2009. He was also a member of the German Davis Cup team. Berrer retired from professional tennis in 2016.
