Marcelo Melo
Marcelo Pinheiro Davi de Melo is a professional tennis player from Brazil. He specializes and doubles and comes with an impressive career-high doubles ranking of number 1 in the world. This ranking was achieved in November 2015, making him to only tennis player from his country to top the doubles ranking of the ATP.
When it comes to impressive performances, Melo had shined during, before, and after he was ranked number 1. He was a two-time Grand Slam champion which he earned during the French Open in 2015 with partner Ivan Dodig of Croatia and the Wimbledon Championships in 2017 with partner Lukasz Kubot of Poland. Due to these wins, he became the first-ever Brazilian to win a Grand Slam doubles title.
Melo did not only leave a permanent mark in the Grand Slam tournaments but also the ATP Tour. In the Tour, he boasts of 35 doubles titles including 9 that he and his partner won in the Masters 1000 level. He was also able to reach the finals round of the 2018 US Open, 2013 Wimbledon Championships and the 2009 French Open in the mixed doubles category. Aside from that, he took the runner-up place in the ATP doubles finals in the 2014 and 2017 seasons.
In addition to winning Grand Slam and ATP Tour titles, Melo also represented Brazil three times in the Summer Olympic Games and has been competing under the Davis Cup since 2008. He is named the top 10 male doubles player of Brazil as well as the top 10 Latin American male doubles player by the ATP. In the ATP Rankings, he is included in the Top 10 male doubles player from the Americas.
