Misaki Doi is a Japanese professional tennis player with a career-high singles ranking of No.30, which she reached on October 10, 2016. She has also made it into the Top 80 of the doubles world ranking and reached the No.77 spot in May 2021. She has one WTA singles title and two WTA doubles titles.

Misaki Doi was born on April 29, 1991, in Ōamishirasato, Japan. She continues to be a resident of Japan, living in Tokyo. Doi started playing tennis when she was six years old. She stands 159 cm tall and she is a left-handed player with a two-handed backhand.

She is coached by Christian Zahalka and since she turned pro in 2006, she has earned $3,837,822 in prize money.

Career

When she was in middle school, she reached the semifinals of the 2004 and 2006 All Japan Middle School Tennis Championship. She joined the ITF Junior Circuit in 2006. Aside from her singles career, she also had a successful girls’ doubles career while partnered with Kurumi Nara. The pair became the second all-Japanese pairing to reach a Grand Slam junior finals. Aside from Nara, Doi also paired up with Romanian tennis player Elena Bogdan.

Early in her professional career, she played mostly in the ITF Circuit. She would not make her Grand Slam main draw debut until 2010 when she was in the opening round of the French Open. She did not make it past the qualifiers of the other Grand Slams that year.

In 2011, she recorded her first Grand Slam match win, making it to the third round of Wimbledon. This year, she also made her maiden WTA 1000 appearance, playing in the first round of the Indian Wells Open and the Wuhan Open. She did not make her Grand Slam women’s doubles debut until 2013.

In 2014, she won her first WTA doubles title at the Istanbul Cup while paired with Elina Svitolina. She won her first WTA singles title in 2015 at the Luxemburg Open. In 2016, she made her first Grand Slam women’s singles fourth-round finish at Wimbledon. That year, she also reached the quarters of the Italian Open women’s singles.

In 2019, she won her second WTA doubles title at the Japan Women’s Open. She was paired with fellow Japanese player Nao Hibino. Her latest finishes include the third round of the 2022 French Open Women’s doubles.
