Hyeon Chung is a South Korean professional tennis player who is currently the highest ranked South Korean in the ATP World Tour. Chung was born on May 19, 1996 in Suwon, South Korea where he also currently resides. Chung turned pro in 2014, and is coached by Neville Godwin.

Chung started playing tennis when he was younger as a way to help maintain his eyesight. As a junior, he won the Eddie Herr International as well as the Junior Orange Bowl titles in December 2008. He and his brother, Hong, were then signed up to the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy which was at IMG in Florida. After that, he competed in ITF Junior in 2012. He went on to win the 2013 Wimbledon Boys’ Singles after winning his first Futures title.

By 2014, Chung moved to the men’s professional tournaments, and was able to have his breakthrough by 2015. The following year, however, Chung was sidelined by an abdominal injury. He took around four months off from playing after he participated at the 2016 French Open.

In 2017, Chung bounced back and reached the Top 50 in the world ranks. He also became the Next Generation Finals champion during the said year.

Through his career so far, Chung has a record of 69 victories with 50 losses. He has 1 career title, but no Grand Slam titles yet. He did, however, reach the semifinal round of the 2018 Australian Open. He is currently ranked at No. 22 as of April 2018, although he previously held the No. 19 rank – the highest he attained in his career so far.
