Julia Goerges is a professional tennis player who was born on November 2, 1988. She began playing at 5 years old and idolized tennis greats Roger Federer and Martina Hingis. This right-handed tennis player prefers grass and hard courts.

She began her professional career in 2005 and went on to play mostly in the ITF circuit from 2006 to 2007. Goerges played in a mix of WTA and ITF tournaments in 2008 and she entered the top 100 ranking after the French Open.

By playing regularly in WTA matches she was consistently within the top 100 world rankings in 2009. This season was also the first time she entered the main draw of all the four Grand Slams. She earned her first WTA title at the 2010 Gastein Ladies.

She made her debut in the top 25 rankings as she won her second WTA title at the 2011 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. Goerges continued her outstanding performance in the women’s circuit and finished 2012 with a world number 18 ranking. Injuries and loss of form plagued her 2013 season and she ranked at number 73 by the end of the year.

While she fell out of the world top WTA 100 in 2014, she made a comeback and was able to reach the doubles semifinal at the 2015 Australian Open. In 2016, she and her partner, Karolina Pliskova, reached two Grand Slam doubles semifinals.

She had a spectacular run with 9 consecutive victories in 2017, which enabled her to have a world top ranking of number 14. In 2018, she debuted in the women’s top 10, reached the Wimbledon semifinal and earned 2 WTA titles. Goerges successfully defended her title at the Auckland Open in 2019.

Goerges has a career record of 454 victories and 315 defeats. She has 7 WTA titles and 6 ITF titles. She reached her highest career rank in August 2018 when she ranked at No. 9. As of April 15, 2019, she is ranked at No. 17. Goerges does not have any Grand Slam tournament titles yet, but has made appearances in all 4 tournaments through the years.
