Johnny Arcilla
Born on February 15, 1980, Johnny Arcilla is a Filipino tennis player who plays on the Davis Cup for the Philippine team. Arcilla, who comes from Butuan City, was a former top-ranked player and has competed in the Southeast Asian Games, winning gold for the Philippines in various tournaments. Memorable matches include his face-offs with another top ranked player Patrick John Tierro in 2008 and Fil-German player Marc Sieber. His most recent match was against Japanese player Soeda Go in the Davis Cup.
Arcilla has won the Philippine Columbian Association Open four times, losing the title in 2010 when he was defeated by Marc Sieber after a score of 6-2, 6-4, 6 in the men's singles, which was presented by Cebuana Lhuillier. Despite the loss Arcilla went home with the PHP 50,000 prize money while Sieber pocketed the PHP 100,000. In the men's doubles Arcilla paired off with Patrick John Tierro slammed past Sieber and partner Ralph Kevin Barte, defeating the pair with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
Arcilla also became the Bohol Open Champion in early 2011, after which he started to prepare for the Davis Cup. He played and won two titles in the Inday Sara National Men's Open in March 2011, which was held at the Eco 4 Tennis Club court. He defeated Davis Cup team mate Elbert Anasta with a score of 6-4, 6-1, in singles and paired with Patrick John Tierro to defeat the Anasta-Ronard Joven tandem to win the doubles title. He bagged the PHP 30,000 cash prize for the singles title and split the PHP 15,000 purse with Tierro.
