Gréta Arn was born on April 13, 1979, in Budapest, Hungary. She stands 180 cm tall and she is right-handed with a two-handed backhand.

Of German heritage, she initially represented Germany in international tennis from 1997 but switched to compete for her native Hungary in 2008, joining the Hungarian Fed Cup team. She has since identified exclusively with Hungary as her sporting nationality.

Career

Turning professional in 1997, Arn competed for Germany on the professional circuit until 2008, after which she began representing Hungary full-time.

Her career breakthrough came at the 2007 Estoril Open, where she won her first WTA title on clay. In 2011, she triumphed at the ASB Classic in Auckland, earning her second WTA singles trophy with a run that included a win over Maria Sharapova.

Arn’s career-best Grand Slam singles results included reaching the third round at the Australian Open in 2012 and Wimbledon in 2010.

She made the second round of the US Open in 2012 and played in 13 main draws at Grand Slam events across her career.

In doubles, she peaked at World No. 175 and played primarily on the ITF Circuit, winning four ITF titles. She also represented Hungary at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and competed for Hungary in the Fed Cup, posting a 9–7 record.

She retired from professional tennis in January 2021.
