Juan Martin del Potro has ended world number one Novak Djokovic’s 22-match winning run with a three-set triumph to reach the Indian Wells final.

The big Argentine downed Djokovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, to progress to the decider where he’ll meet Rafael Nadal.

However, the end of Djokovic’s perfect run in the calendar year was the big story.

“It’s OK. It happens in sport,” Djokovic said. “I just didn’t make it this time.”

Djokovic added: “I didn’t deserve to win today.

“Whenever I had chances, second, third set, I throw them away with some unforced errors.

“My movement was poor, and I congratulate to my opponent.”
