World number two Novak Djokovic has produced a remarkably cool performance to win the Shanghai Masters over US Open winner Andy Murray on Sunday.

Djokovic saved five match points to defeat the Briton 5-7 7-6 (13-11) 6-3, in a huge match which took three hours and 21 minutes.

“It could have easily gone the other way. He was five match points up,” Djokovic said.

“When I faced those match points, I tried to focus on each individually. We were very close.”

Djokovic added that the victory over Murray was a boost towards his ultimate goal of finishing the year as number one, currently held by Roger Federer.

“It’s something I’m aiming for. Obviously this is going to be a huge confidence boost and also is going to help me in the race for No.1,” he said.
