In what will be a very vital seventh day of the Wimbledon 2011, there will be exciting fourth round matches to be played on. At the Centre Court, Andy Murray will start off the proceedings with his match against Richard Gasquet.
Murray had to sweat hard for his win over Ivan Ljubicic in the previous round while Gasquet easily quelled the Italian challenge of Simone Bolelli. Ljubicic had managed to take a set off the fourth seeded Murray.
The Murray-Gasquet match, to be broadcast live on BBC One, will see Murray go in as 3/10 favourite to enter the quarter-final. Gasquet is at 3/1 to surprise Murray to enter the quarter-finals and play the winner of Kubot and Lopez.
In the men’s section of the draw, the next match will have the most fancied and the top-seeded Rafael Nadal take on Juan Martin Del Potro in the fourth round match. The two players needed straight sets to come through to the fourth round.
While Nadal needed two tie-breakers to begin with, the third set went in his favour rather easily while Del Potro was a 7-6, 7-6, 7-5 winner over his opponent.
Nadal goes in as a favourite to win the match with offer of 3/14 with Del Potro being offered 9/2 to enter the quarter-final with a surprise win.
The Nadal v Del Potro fourth round match will be shown live on BBC One.
In some other men’s matches, there will be second-seeded Novak Djokovic facing Frenchman and 19-seeded Michael Llodra in the fourth round. Djokovic had stiff third round encounter against Marcos Baghdatis, but will now look to turn the crowd in his favour after being cheered against in the previous match.
Given Llodra’s inexperience at this stage of the tournament, Djokovic will be hugely favourite at 1/9 to clinch the match. Llodra has never entered a Grand Slam quarter-final before and unless Djokovic implodes rather badly, Llodra goes in a 19/2. The Djokovic-Llodra match will be shown on BBC1 live.
Roger Federer, the third-seeded player this tournament, and a six-time champion will take on Mikhail Youzhny in the fourth round. It is hardly a surprise that Federer will go in at 1/33 favourite to win the match, with Youzhny at 25/1 if he can win against the Swiss-man. Federer’s game has barely shown any chinks in the tournament and there cannot be too much doubt of his place in the quarter-final.
The Roger Federer-Mikhail Youzhny match will also be shown live on BBC1.
