Indeed, a lot of damage was done for the seeds in the third round, with Gilles Simon (number 15), Nicolas Almagro (number 16) and David Nalbandian (number 28) also heading home.

However, Serbian Viktor Troicki and Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka – seeded 13 and 14 respectively – both went home early after second round defeats to Lu Yen-Hsun and Simone Bolelli respectively.

Who’s Still In

First seed and reigning champion Rafa Nadal has cruised through his opening three contests in straight sets. Nadal next faces Argentinian Juan Manuel Del Porto who could be a tricky opponent, while last year’s beaten finalist Tomas Berdych will likely await after that.

In-form second seed Novak Djokovic has only dropped one set so far and meets Frenchman Michael Llodra in the fourth round after he knocked out the dangerous Lu Yen-Hsun, while Robin Soderling’s early exit opens up his side of the draw.

Third seed and French Open runner-up Roger Federer is yet to drop a set this tournament and easily brushed aside old foe David Nalbandian in the third round. Next up for the Swiss is Russian 18th seed Mikhail Youzhny.

Fourth seed and local hope Andy Murray is also in the hunt and on track although he did show some nerves losing his first set of the tournament but he’s only dropped one since. Murray faces 17th seed Richard Gasquet next and his side of the draw is open after Monfils and Roddick lost.andy murray

Seventh seed and four-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams is also through after some unconvincing and solid wins. Serena dropped sets in her first and second round matches and next faces French ninth seed Marion Bartoli.

Five-time Wimbledon champion and darkhorse 23rd seed Venus Williams has also moved into the fourth round with two straight-forward victories along with a tricky second round triumph over Japan’s Kimiko Date-Krumm which went to three sets. However, Venus now faces Pironkova in the fourth round.
