Ranked number one in doubles, the Bryan twins have held the spot for the past eight years and once again proved that the title was going nowhere.
Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan have won 10 Grand Slam titles in doubles, among them the US Open which they won three times, Wimbledon and the French Open. The pair won the Australian title in 2006, 2007 and 2009. With these wins, the American duo holds the record for the most number of tournament titles, beating the record of retired Aussie team Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge. They are also closing in on the pair’s collection of 11 Grand Slam titles. Another record the twins are set to beat is the Open Era record of 12 titles held by John Newcombe and Tony Roche.
Their most recent win pitted them against the formidable Indian pairing of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, but they proved to be the stronger foe, ending the match with a 6-3, 6-4 score on Saturday.
We have tons of respect for those guys, they are legends, they are marquee, they can only make our game better,” they said of their Indian opponents. It was just great to have the ‘Indian Express’ back on the doubles court. It was an extra-special feeling out there.”
