After announcing her retirement over a year ago, Justine Henin, former no.1 tennis champion, is back in the game.
Her announcement for comeback at VTM television was made after Kim Clijsters, also a popular women’s tennis player, bagged the grand prize in the recent U.S. Open against Caroline Wozniacki. Clijsters also retired from the game for more than 2 years because of injuries.
Despite being out of the court and from the spotlight for more than a year, Henin appears to still be in tip-top shape to compete professionally and eventually grab what could be her eighth Grand Slam title. She hopes to start playing come January of 2010.
It would be recalled that in 2008, Henin made her retirement final and was determined to never go back to playing tennis, which had been her career for around 10 years and which gave her 1 gold medal from the Olympics besides the 7 Grand Slam titles. These were due to the jet-setting lifestyle her career demanded and the different injuries she suffered.
She instead busied herself serving as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, which also took her to different places such as eastern Congo.
However, today, it seems like tennis is really her life, and the fire and passion once again burned intensely.
