2009 U.

2009 U.S. Open match went easy for Roger Federer as he defended his title by defeating Devin Britton 1, 6-3, 7-5. However, Britton was able to keep up a little bit with how the game was controlled by Federer.Roger Federer>

“My goal was to not get crushed,” Britton conceded, “and make it interesting for a little while… I was thinking, ‘I’m up a break. This is awesome. Then it only lasted about 30 seconds.”

Now Federer is up and ready for his sixth straight U.S. Open title.

“I know tennis is not everything, so it’s not a problem,” said Federer. “But if I enjoy playing tennis, why should I stop just because I’ve beaten the all-time Grand Slam record? That’s not what tennis is all about.”

In the women’s division, Serena Williams also had an early victory when she defeated Alexa Glatch, Monday night. Glatch who is playing with a wild card was up against the best Grand Slam player and was overwhelmed by the event.

“You just try not to think about the occasion,” Glatch said. “You try to pretend it’s any other court and you’re playing against any other opponent. But it’s very hard to do, especially when it’s your first time out there in the biggest stadium there is.”

The 2005 U. S. Open champ, Kim Clijsters, also won her first match in the tournament by defeating Viktoriya Kutuzova. She made a great comeback, but said, “I still feel like I can improve. But I’m definitely comfortable where I am right now.”
