The defending champion of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic, Juan Martin Del Potro successfully defends his title by defeating top seeded Andy Roddick in the finals. The Argentine won the match by delivering a crosscourt forehand that hit the outer portion of the sideline. He is also the first player since Andre Agassi, who won in 1998 and 1999, to win the title two times in a row.juan martin del potro

The 20 year old Del Potro made his way to the finals by defeating the No. 4 seeded Fernando Gonzalez in the semifinals. On another court, Roddick defeated fellow American John Isner on Saturday’s semifinal.

This was Roddick’s first match after his five-set loss against Roger Federer at the Wimbledon last July. He also won the Legg Mason title three times in 2001, 2005 and 2007.

The match set was a bit brutal for Del Potro, plus the warmer weather on Sunday afternoon wore him down. He double-faulted, and missed a smash by hitting it long. However, he was able to deliver 19 aces in the entire game. On the other hand, Roddick who previously played night games to avoid the sun, also made some of errors during the match. Aside from his double faults, he missed services, hitting the net as well as delivering long backhands.
