Robin Soderling will be facing Juan Monaco from Argentina in the 2009 Swedish Open this Sunday at the Center Court.
Soderling defeated fellow Swedish Andreas Vinciguerra on Saturday’s semifinals. Vinciguerra made it easy for Soderling to place in the final, only breaking Soderling power play a few times. However, Vinciguerra showed his support, saying “Robin played incredible, I hope he wins the final.”
On the other hand, the unseeded Monaco was please with his game. He defeated the third seeded Tommy Robredo, breaking the Spaniards strong returns and fast serves in the first and second round.
“I think it was my best match of the year,” Monaco said. “I played the important points very well and I didn’t give him a chance to get into a rhythm… I was playing unbelievable. It was a perfect match for me. I served very well and hit my forehand unbelievable. I tried to be very focused. But the score for sure surprised me.”
Monaco’s triumph over Robredo is his settling score at Buenos Aires last February.
Soderling will be the first Swedish to win after his coach, Magnus Norman won the title in 2000. Monaco also made a mark by being the first Argentine to reach the finals in the Swedish Open after Mariano Zabaleta in 2003 and 2004.
