Roger Federer and long-time girlfriend Miroslava ‘Mirka’ Vavrinec are expecting their first child as confirmed by the tennis star on his blog. Miroslava ‘Mirka’ Vavrinec is a former WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) player and the two have been together since 2000, when they met at the Sydney Olympics while representing Switzerland.
“This is a dream come true for us. We love children and we are looking forward to being parents for the first time. Mirka is feeling great and everything is going well,” the 27-year-old Grand Slam champ said in his blog. He added that the baby is expected sometime in the summer.
The 13-time Grand Slam Champion recently lost to Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open and had to pull out of the Davis Cup series where he plays for Switzerland due to a back injury, the same reason why he also had to withdraw from the Dubai Tennis Championships. He is now at Indian Wells, however, with a fully-recovered back and eager to go back out on the court. He is seeded a close second behind Nadal at Indian Wells and is expected to play against either Marc Gicquel or Simone Bolelli.
Vavrinec was discovered by tennis champ Martina Navratilova when she watched a tournament in Filderstadt in Germany with her father.
