World No. 55 Rafael Jodar downs seventh seed Cameron Norrie, becoming the fifth Spanish teenager to reach the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell semifinals in the Open Era on Friday.

Spanish wild card Rafael Jodar took down world No. 24 Cameron Norrie with a 6-3, 6-2 win in 69 minutes, securing the last spot in the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell semifinals.

In his on-court interview, the 2024 US Open Junior champion outlined: "Cameron is always a tough opponent. I think I handled the important moments and the pressure moments in the match very well.

"I am very happy with my performance today, but I know I have to keep going. I have to keep pushing. There are still more matches to come."

The 19-year-old, yet to drop a set at the ATP 500 tournament, battled through a rollercoaster opening set in which they traded breaks of serve on several occasions, before putting his foot down in the seventh game to close out 6-3 in 35 minutes.

With the wind in his sails, the Madrid-born delivered a dominant display, converting a double break on his way to wrap up the second set 6-2 and the win at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona.

Furthermore, the Marrakech champion, who is yet to drop a set at the event, extended his winning streak to eight matches, playing his first career quarterfinal in an ATP 500 tournament.

A confidence-boosting result for Jodar in the lead-up to a maiden encounter on Tour against ninth seed Arthur Fils for a place in the championship match.

Earlier, the in-form 21-year-old outlasted second seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-4 in 76 minutes, becoming the first Frenchman to reach back-to-back semifinals at the venue, his third this season.

ā€œEveryone waits for the big serve and big forehand, but I have a good backhand and can stay there without missing a backhand. I was happy with the performance today, pretty solid throughout," Fils said, courtside.

"With Lorenzo, it is always very tough because he can change the rhythm. He does a slice and then one with spin. It is a lot of mix. I tried to be very aggressive on the court.ā€

Having spent eight months sidelined from tour-level competition due to a career-challenging back injury, the 3-time ATP title holder has gone from strength to strength since his comeback.

Currently ranked at No. 30, he advanced to his first career final since 2024 in Doha last February, falling to world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz.

From there, he made it through the last eight in Indian Wells, and the last four in Miami and Barcelona, his first clay-court event in 2026.

The other semifinal will feature qualifier Hamad Medjedovic against fifth seed Andrey Rublev on Saturday.

The Serbian player prevailed over world No. 52 Nuno Borges 7-6(6), 6-2 in one hour and 34 minutes, courtesy of a consistent performance, continuing to build upon an impressive campaign from qualifying.

On Wednesday, he stunned world No. 6 Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-4 to clinch the biggest win of his career by ranking.

Meanwhile, Rublev advanced to his first semifinal in Barcelona, his third at the ATP 500 level this year, by dismantling Czech Tomas Machac 6-4, 6-3 on Rafa Nadal court.

The world No. 15 is bidding to progress into his maiden final of the season.
