World number two Jannik Sinner has reached his first Indian Wells final by dismissing fourth seed Alexander Zverev in straight sets on Saturday.

Second seed Jannik Sinner became the first Italian men’s finalist in tournament history by moving past world No. 4 Alexander Zverev with a 6-2, 6-4 win in one hour and 23 minutes.

Competing in his third semifinal in the California desert, the 24-year-old produced a commanding display over the German player, advancing to his 34th tour-level championship match at Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Saturday.

“It’s a great achievement. The first time here in the final, it means a lot to me,” outlined Sinner in his on-court interview. “The third time that I’ve played the semis here, so I’m very happy about that…

"Now let’s see what’s coming. Of course, the next one will be a very tough test, but I’m extremely happy. We have improved this week, this tournament, and that for me was the most important part."

As a result, he extended his winning streak at the Masters 1000 level to 10 matches.

The four-time major champion took control of the first set, breaking twice on his way to close it out 6-2 in 31 minutes.

Zverev, who set off solid behind his serve, holding his ground to love in his first two service games, would build momentum, taking a fierce 23-shot baseline rally in style.

However, the momentum was short-lived as Sinner broke his opponent's serve to steal the fifth game, holding to inch ahead 4-2 within 21 minutes into the first set.

Overall, the fourth seed was unable to match the performances that had led him to his first semifinal at Indian Wells, misfiring when it mattered most.

An erratic display saw him commit 11 unforced errors (8 on the backhand side) to just 4 from the Italian's racquet.

Meanwhile, the player coached by Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi stayed sharp on serve, invading the 28-year-old area of expertise, winning 92 percent of the points on his first serve and 63 percent on his second delivery.

In addition, his performance on the return made a huge difference, recording a return rate of 242 compared to his adversary's 46.

Not able to play on his terms in the opener, the fifth man to reach the semifinals of all nine Masters 1000s, attempted to recover lost ground in the second set, showcasing an aggressive style in the early stages.

A combination of depth and power on the return resulted in Zverev's first chance to break his rival, but the No. 1 Italian racquet saved it with an ace.

Staying ruthless from the baseline, Sinner set the level at 3-3 after an edgy game, unmoved by the pressure.

Continuing to showcase his defensive skills, he quickly shut the door to his adversary, converting a clinical break in the seventh game of the second set, taking a 4-3 advantage, and never looked back.

From there, the match went with serves until the Wimbledon reigning champion wrapped it up 6-4, winning 83 percent of the points on his first serve, fending off the lone break point he faced throughout the contest.

All in all, he finished with 18 winners against 13 unforced errors to Zverev's 14 and 21, respectively.

Assessing the semifinal encounter, he said: “It was a great performance from my side. Sascha didn’t play very well today. I broke him a couple of times in the first set, which gave me confidence to continue, and I served very well at important moments. I’m very happy.”

Next, he will meet two-time runner-up Daniil Medvedev, who overpowered world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in a two-set thriller.

The 24-time ATP titlist is seeking to complete the set of finals of all six hard-court Masters 1000 titles on Sunday, in his quest to claim his first crown this season.
