Serena Sets Higher Standard For Career Prize Money

Winning 32 singles championship titles and 14 doubles titles, Serena Williams has just set her mark in tennis history.

Winning 32 singles championship titles and 14 doubles titles, Serena Williams has just set her mark in tennis history. Recently, she just broke the record of well known female golfer Annika Sorenstam’s standard of receiving career prize money when she reached at least two finals at the Australian Open. Sorenstam has received the highest pay of at least $23 million and Serena can equally receive more.serena williams

Williams won a doubles game together with sister, Venus, at the semifinals. She also defeated Russian player, Elena Dementieva also at the semifinals but under the singles category. She gained a good record of 6-3, 6-4.

Critics claimed that even if the younger William lost the two matches in Australia, she still would be able to earn $22.7 million which is closer to Lindsay Davenport’s earning of more than $500,000 and to that of Sorenstam by more than $150,000.

She will advance herself to collecting even much higher prize money if she will be able to win at the Australian Open finals. She will compete against Russian player Dinara Safina on Saturday. This will be her 10th Grand Slam singles championship title if she will be able to make it and her 8th Grand Slam doubles title if she and Venus will be successful against Japanese player Ai Sugiyama and Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova.
