Court Philippe-Chatrier, the arena where the illustrious member of the Big 3, Rafael Nadal, achieved the feat, winning a record 14 Roland-Garros titles throughout an unmatched career, served as host to a memorable homage to a legacy built with passion by a gifted player, a warrior who gave his all.

As Nadal arrived on the court, he received an outstanding ovation from a stadium packed with 15,000 fans wearing ochre-colored T-shirts with the words ‘Merci Rafa’ in tribute to the man whose footprint will stand forever on the prestigious red-clay surface.

Courtside, Nadal’s family, as well as Carlos Alcaraz and his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, and four-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek were in attendance.

I may not be able to play here anymore, but my heart and remembrance will always be here,” he said when addressing the crowd from a podium at the center of the court.

A tribute video was aired and watched together by the former world number one, everyone present at the ceremony, and the fans at home; to halt the tears became an impossible match to win, even for the relentless champion.

Gilles Moretton, president of the French Federation of Tennis (FFT), as tournament director, Amelie Mauresmo entered the court.

Then, Nadal’s three greatest rivals - Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray, joined him, receiving a round of applause.

The emotional Spaniard took the microphone, reflecting on their journey together.

It’s incredible how time changes the perspective of everything,” he asserted when addressing his peers, legends of the sport.

All of us achieved our dreams,” he added. “We showed the world that we could fight as hard as possible, but in a good way, being good colleagues and respectful to one another.

Furthermore, the FFT dedicated a permanent plaque to the 22-time Grand Slam champion, embedded in center court clay surface, where he lifted 14 Coupe des Mousquetaires, a recognition for eternity.

It’s a present that I can’t describe in words,” Nadal outlined with tears in his eyes. “But for me, it was and is, and it’s always going to be a huge honor and very, very emotional to have this spot on the most important court of my tennis career, without a doubt.”

Merci Rafa!
