Following a thrilling final between the two top-seeded nations, Team USA captured the United Cup title for the second time in three years over Team Poland at Ken Rosewall Arena on Sunday in Sydney.

Throughout ten days of high-level team competition, reuniting 18 nations, Team USA and Poland built solid paths toward the 2025 United Cup final held at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Center on Sunday.

Both countries won their group stages in Perth, dismantling their quarterfinal opponents to punch their ticket to the knockout semifinals in Sydney, where Poland beat Kazakhstan 3-0, and the USA edged Team Czech Republic 3-0, securing their spots in the final.

On Sunday, WTA No. 3 Coco Gauff and US Open runner-up Taylor Fritz led Team USA to a brilliant 2-0 triumph over Team Poland representatives, No. 2 Iga Swiatek and world No. 16 Hubert Hurkacz.

The night session opened with the women’s singles match, the 13th meeting between five-time Grand Slam champion Swiatek and Gauff.

The hard-hitting 20-year-old set off to a fast start, racing to a spirited 6-4, 6-4 win in one hour and 52 minutes, showcasing her impressive athleticism, determination, and consistency.

I have the belief that I’m one of the best players in the world, and when I play good tennis, I’m hard to beat,” she outlined after the match. “Today, I played some great tennis. I’m glad I was able to get a point for Team USA. It was tough today, I’m not gonna lie.”

Gauff, debuting at the United Cup, did not put a foot wrong. Wise behind her serve and lethal with her forehand, she proved too strong to be beaten, even by the fierce Swiatek, who delivered world-class performances under pressure all tournament.

At 4-5 down in the second set, the Pole player asked for the physio, taking an off-court medical time out to receive treatment on her left thigh.

Once play resumed, it was business as usual for the American, who completed a perfect run to give the lead to her country.

The former world No. 1 double-faulted on match point at 4-5, 30-40, falling to her rival 4-6, her first loss at the 2025 United Cup.

It’s great to win a team event, the only team event I’ve ever won, so I’m super excited,” she added.

The 2023 US Open champion won all five singles matches she played without dropping a set.

Then, Fritz took the court to compete in the men’s singles match against former world No. 6 Hurkacz at Ken Rosewall Arena.

The grueling contest saw the 27-year-old making good use of his booming serve, stealing the opener 6-4.

Nonetheless, Hurkacz kicked up a level, holding his ground under pressure to close out the second set 7-5 with moments of brilliance, keeping his nation’s hopes alive.

Lengthy baseline rallies set the tone of a tight third set, which unfolded into a tiebreak that Fritz took 7-6(4) to seal the overall triumph after two hours and 18 minutes.

The Americans set a statement record at the mixed team competition, lifting their second United Cup trophy at the tournament’s third edition, becoming a force to be reckoned with.
