Since she won, she has suffered from a series of injuries and has failed to capture the magic that helped her win in Flushing Queens. She has also gone through a number of coaches.
āI was struggling with the physical pain but the mental side of it was really difficult for me too,ā she said.
In an interview with The Times, she said: āI always want to put forward the best version of myself or strive for that, but I knew I couldnāt.ā
Last June, she went separate ways with her most recent coach Sebastian Sachs.
āI very much attach my self-worth to my achievements,ā she said.
āIf I lost a match I would be really down, I would have a day of mourning, literally staring at the wall. I feel things so passionately and intensely.ā
Back in 2021, she had a dream run to the US Open where she did not drop a set on the way to her victory.
āThat moment on the court, when I was celebrating [the US Open win], I was like, I would literally trade any struggle in the world for this moment,ā said Raducanu.
āAnything can come my way, I will take it for what I have right now because this is the best thing in the world. I promised myself that, on the court that day.ā
āSince then Iāve had a lot of setbacks, one after the other. I am resilient, my tolerance is high, but itās not easy. And sometimes I think to myself āI wish Iād never won the US Open, I wish that didnāt happenā.
āThen I am like, āremember that feeling, remember that promiseā because it was completely pure.ā
