Nick Kyrgios admitted that he spent time in the psychiatric ward after his 2019 Wimbledon loss.

This is the latest revelation in the Australian’s struggles with his mental health.

He said that after his loss to Rafael Nadal that he went to a hospital in London to help him ā€œfigure out my problemsā€.

In comments published by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, he also said: ā€œI was genuinely contemplating suicideā€.

ā€œI lost at Wimbledon. I woke up and my dad was sitting on the bed, full-blown crying. That was the big wake-up call for me.ā€

ā€œI was like ā€˜OK, I can’t keep doing this.’ I ended up in a psych ward in London to figure out my problems.ā€

He also admitted to drinking and abusing drugs and that it led to the deterioration of his relationship with his family and friends.

ā€œThat pressure, having that all-eyes-on-you expectation, I couldn’t deal with it,ā€ he said. ā€œI hated the kind of person I was.ā€

Kyrgios has not shied away from discussing his mental health on social media and in interviews.

Earlier this year, he pled guilty to assaulting his former girlfriend by shoving her to the ground back in 2021.

After the court ruling, he issued a press statement saying:

ā€œI was not in a good place when this took place and I reacted to a difficult situation in a way I deeply regret. I know it wasn’t OK and I’m sincerely sorry for the hurt I caused.ā€

ā€œMental health is tough. Life can seem overwhelming,ā€ he added in the statement. ā€œBut I’ve found that getting help and working on myself has helped me to feel better and to be better.ā€
