The defending champion continues her bid for her third French Open title in four years. She will next go up against Claire Liu in the second round.
If she wins her third title, she will equal the records held by Serena Williams and Monica Seles for the number of wins at Roland Garros.
“I don’t even know these records,” Swiatek said.
“I play tennis but I’m not really an expert in terms of statistics and history, so I’m not really focused on that.”
“I never even played Serena or Monica Seles. I’m kind of living my own life and having my own journey.”
If she wins her third title, she will become the only active player who has won three titles. Williams retired last year. Ashleigh Barty who also has three is also retired.
This makes Swiatek not only the current world number 1 but also the best player in women’s tennis at the moment.
She has gained the respect of other players including Barbora Krejcikova who said:
“I have so much respect for Iga.”
“She’s what – 21, 22? When I was 21, I was in diapers. Like tennis-wise, in diapers. And she’s dominating. It’s unbelievable.”
If by some chance, Swiatek drops before the quarterfinals, she will be overtaken by Aryna Sabalenka in the world rankings.
